Monday 13 December 2010

13th December

Today’s lesson we done some more editing to the video adding a few bits and cutting stuff etc. We ran into a slight problem of lip syncing the words but once we figured it out we managed to sort that out no problem. Once we upload the video to Final Cut Pro we will then begin the process of trying to do some split screen shots that we could not do in iMovie

Wednesday 8 December 2010

8th December

The week of snow had really set us back and we could not film anything for a whole week. But we did manage to film some small parts that we could use for our video. We then went into the Mac room and started to edit what we had of the video so far so it would be quicker to edit when we came back to it later.

Monday 29 November 2010

29th November

Today we film the scenes with me sending the girls emails and constantly ringing their phones. Filming these small clips was easy and we managed to do it quickly without any problems. We also shot the scene of me walking down the corridor and falling over with my bags and ring for the girls. I had to stay on the floor for quiet a while to film so close up shots and it was VERY cold but I don’t mind taking one for the team.

Monday 22 November 2010

22nd November

On this day we didn’t have our story board so it left us in a bit of a bad situation so we decided to watched the animatic and decided on what shots we wanted to film so we didn’t waste time doing nothing. But we did manage to film a few shots that would be useful to us if we needed them.

Wednesday 17 November 2010

17th November

Today we shot the scene of the girls doing their performances and me coming on the stage bothering them. Filming went well and we got quiet alot of shots that we liked and a few that we didn’t like either. Some of the shots we got today are also going to be used for our digi packs. We also took pictures on the green screen just to see what the lighting would look like and we got some good pictures there to.

Test Shots And Lighting 10th November

During today's lesson we went to room with a white background and took some tester shots to see what we could come up with. We took a fair amount of pictures and moved the lights around to see what we could get, some were good most of them we did not like.

Here is a picture that we all liked as a group and feel that this is the sort of lighting that we want for our video. The lighting in this tester shot has a nice white white contrast in the background which makes the light look more sleek.

Mood Board For Bullets And Barbies

Video Analysis

"The worst thing about crossing a line, Is when you dont know, You allready have."

At the very beginning of the video there is a black background with white writing with a quotation. The colors of black and white have been used to get the audience attention to the writing straight away because they are two colors that stand out well together. The writing on the screen is to straight away let the audience know that there is going to be a story told throughout the video and that the audience should think about that quote through out the video.

After the words at the beginning there is a abit of dialogue between Drake and a Man. This is done to reiterate that this song has meaning and a story to it. The beginning of the video has many quick shots of Drake in the club and the studio this shows that he has a busy life style and that he is allways on the move. The Lighting of the video is very dark and has alot if red and green flashing during the video sometimes bluring the screen. The flashing lights are shown to show the night life of the of the rapper. In the club they show all the girls dancing with other men and the club full of girls but Drake on his own staring at the woman with the man who kills him at the end. This scene is showing that drake is making that decision in his mind to cross the line without realising which goes back to the quote at the beginning.

Brief Of The Band

First of all we had a look at all the briefs given to us of the different genres availible and we came to a agreement that we wanted to go for something that we knew we could work well with so we decided to go for good girls gone bad. The decision of the was discussed over quiet a long period of time because we didnt really like the songs that we were given but in the end seen as we all like destinys child we chose the song Bugga Boo. We watched the video looked at the lyrics and decided we liked the whole concept of the video and we could work with it. Coming up with the name of the band took a long while as most of the ideas we were coming out with sounded cheesy or were just crap, but in the end we managed to think of a good band name which was Bullets And Barbies. We chose this name for the band because it goes with the whole concept of Good Girls Gone Bad you wouldnt normally asociate bullets with barbies.

Young Money - Bed Rock , Codes And Conventions

Bed Rock is a track performed by Young Money who are a famous rap group signed to cash money records founded by Lil Wayne.

Through out this video we see a lot of pretty girls dancing around the house getting all close with the rappers. The use of the girls is symbolising that the rap lifestyle is full of pretty girls throwing themselves at you which relates to the lyrics of the song because it refers to women the whole way through. All through the video the rappers flash their money and chains and throw money on a snooker table they do this to show that they are super rich and they don't care how much money they spend it don't matter to them.

The video is very colourful to get the audience attention and is easy on the eye. The camera shots are very quick sharp shots each catching different shots of the rappers rapping and messing around in the mansion most of the shots are mid section pictures.

Digi Pack Anylysis

First of all the iconic picture of michael jackson is used on this album cover to draw the audience in , this will draw them in because he looks young and innocent and thats the michael jackson the fans all used to know and love. They used this picture very effectivley because this was michael before all the media stories that have been in the news which damaged his career. The colors used on this digi pack have been chosen very carefully the use of gold makes the album seem elegant , this is michael jackson sharing something special with his fans not just a normal CD cover for them to buy. Michael Jackson is wearing a pure white suit on the front cover of his CD cover to symbolise that he is pure allmost angel like this gives the audience a warm feeling and therfore connects with them

The signature on the album cover makes the audience feel very close to Michael , It shows that he has thought about his fans and wanted to make them feel special by putting his signature there. This is a smart tactic because normaly fans would die to get Michael Jackson to sign a shirt or something , so to do that he is catering to his fans and thinking of them.

The inside pictures tell two different stories allmost like a heaven vs hell scenario the good in him vs the bad. In the thriller picture michael is wearing red and black with yellow snake eye contacts. The red and black symbolises evil but also power shown by him covering up the woman in this picture. We can see by the grin on his face he is enjoying the power he has over the woman because she is scared and he knows this. But in the next picture we see Michael in a more heavenly look. He is holding a little tiger which shows that he is a gentle man and as we all know he loves animals. As we all know tigers are meant to be dangerous animals that eat meat so using a cute little baby tiger is another little trick the media has used to symbolise this image. The colors in the two pictures are very diferent as well. The thriller picture has a weird kind of green color in the back which again potrays the dark side. But in the other pic we have a black background with a white light the black background is used to really make the white of Michaels suit stand out and glow.

Rough Trade 21st Century

Rough Trade has changed dramaticaly in the 21st century, Before they didnt have their artist on contracts which backfired on them when they first started out but now have brought that into their company. Also they have accountants who handle all the financial business which they did not have in the past because they didnt really feel it was a busniess it was mroe of a place for people who loved music to go and buy and sell records.

Rough Trade in the 21st century finally got a number one in the charts they had been so close to in the past but couldnt achieve because of the contract problem. Duffy was the artist who got them thier number one in the charts, But they stuck to their same principle and gave duffy time and did not pressure her to do something she did not want to do.

Rough Trade 1990's

At the start of the 1990's after years of arguments within the company two thirds of the companies staff were axed. The company were in real trouble and even sold of the company name.

Finally Geoff and his new partner Jeannette moved into a new office in 1991, And they also went about making a new artist management. Rough Trade knew that they could be sucessfull from past experiences they just needed to reluctantly use some of the big corporations techniques but they still uphold looking after their artist and not putting pressure on them.

Rough Trade 1980's

One of the things that was really affecting Rough Trade was the " Contracts " issue. Because Rough Trade were not like the big corporations trapping artist with a contract this meant that they had the freedom once they got big and started selling loads of records they would just leave Rough Trade for a bigger company. This was frustrating for Rough Trade because there artist were leaving before they could nail a number 1 in the charts.

In 1982 Rough Trade wanted to be more organised because they were becoming more of a known company so they hired an accountant because none of the people at their were business minded they just cared about the music. But this backfired and allmost made the company go bust which allmost closed the shop this then caused tension within Rough Trade and caused a rift between the distribution side of Rough Trade and Record label. Distribution became very powerfull because it acounted for 90% of Rough Trade.

Rough Trades ideology from the very beginning was all about the music and giving unkown artist a chance to become something challenging the majour record labels ideology of just to make profit. However Rough Trade finally started putting artist on contracts so that they couldnt just up and leave them whenever they wanted, they had learned from that mistake in the past. Also making money has become important to Rough Trade.

When Rough Trade found out about the Smiths it was like a breath of fresh air because they were something new and they knew this. The introduction of The Smiths brought Rough Trade great sucess and also brought the music industry something new. The Smiths introduced Indie music which has become massive biggest thing since Punk music and Rough Trade were reaping the rewards. The Smiths were on a contract so they couldnt just leave Rough Trade and go to another record label.

Research On Rough Trade 1970's

Rough trade was founded in 1976 and set up in West London. The label was set up in 1978 and also went into the distribution business that year. The musical trend that was the main thing back then was punk. Punk was very popular when rough trade first started out and that was the main thing they sold, however rough trade also sold reggae music as the area the shop was located had a strong carribean culture there.

Rough Trade was very different from the majour big companies. First of all there main focus wasnt all about making profit they didnt throw a contract at their artist to keep them under controll. Rough Trade liked to give their artist freedom in whatever they wanted to bring out and did not pressurise them to sell what they wanted. Unlike the big corporations Rough Trade actually looked after their artist made sure they were ok, But not all artist were greatfull and some of them left them as soon as they got big for deal with a big label industry.

Rough Trade used a very smart technique to expand the independent music scene. On each album in the shop they had a set of instructions inside for people to read, These instructions were things like how to make your own album covers etc. These instructions were a big help for these unknown artist to get themselves out there and gave people hope that they could become big without being enslaved by a contract from a big corporation. In 1979 Richard Scott was put in charge of international distribution.

Media Journal

In media AS i learned that media is a difficult subject and its not all about watching tv and films. I have learnt that Media is a massive subject that effects our everyday lives and impacts on the way we see things. I have also learned how to work in a team and listen to other peoples ideas. However I feel that i could have tried harder during the year and I know I have to come with a more work based attitude this year to get a good grade. I hope to achieve a good grade at the end of the year and get it knowing that i worked my hardest.
